6) Life Cycle: –
Several species of Acanthamoeba, including A. culbertsoni, A. polyphaga, A. castellanii, A. astronyxis, A. hatchetti, A. rhysodes, A. divionensis, A. lugdunensis, and A. lenticulata are implicated in human disease.
As you can see in the following image, there are 2 stages which are cysts and trophozoites. Although the cysts and trophozoites can enter the body, trophozoites are the infectious stage and it consumes bacteria (i.e. eats bacteria to live) and this is a good tool to diagnose it by culturing it on a non-nutrient agar with E.coli.
