At some time, Japanese girls ate apricots slowly in order to increase fertility. This may seem funny to you, but the fact is that the fruit is rich in metal required for the production of sex hormones.

These days, It is normal that many people don’t depend on the apricot to increase the fertility rate. However, these fruits, that characterized by the sweetness of taste and soft velvet texture, contains different types of compounds, which researches have proven to be resistant to diseases and infections, blindness and heart disease.

And most of the benefits of apricots are due to its high content of (carotenoids)

It is vegetable dyes that pigment many of fruits – that we love – as well as vegetables with red, orange and yellow colors, which also has many health benefits that have the advantage of disease prevention. The researchers determine at least of 600 types of carotenoids including some of the most effective types such as beta-carotene, which is found in apricots

Says Dr. (Ritva Butrum) Vice-President of the American Institute for Cancer Research in Washington: “Apricot is one of the best foods that contain carotenoids or colored pigments.”

Fruit for heart:-

The unique mixture of therapeutic compounds in apricot makes this fruit a strong ally in the fight against heart disease. In addition to beta-carotene, apricot fruits contain a compound called (lycopene). It has been proven by studies that these two compounds resist the process by which cholesterol of the low-density lipoproteins (LDL) turns to bad substance in the bloodstream. This is important; because it is likely that the corruption of (LDL) leads to adhesion to the walls of the arteries.

Says Dr. (Frederick Khachik) chemical researcher in the Laboratory of Food Composition in the Department of Agriculture in (the United States) in (Beltzville – Maryland): “lycopene is one of the most powerful antioxidants that we know.”

As one study, that continued throughout the thirteen years, found that those who consumed large quantities of carotenoids, their incidence of heart disease is reduced by a third compared with those who consumed less quantities. In one of the studies, which lasted eight years and conducted on 90,000 patients, proved that those who ate a diet rich in carotenoids have a lower risk of infection with the same disease by a quarter.

The fruits of apricots are a good source of beta-carotene, where three fruits contain 2 mg which equals 3% of the required daily amount.

Apricot is useful for the eyes:-

If you do not like spinach, you can get a lot of vitamin (A) by eating the fruits of apricot (turns beta-carotene in the apricots into vitamin (A) in the body. It is proven that this nutrient protects the eyes, as it become clear later, the eyes need all the help possible.

Each time through which the light passes through the eyes, this causes free radicals launched toward tissue. If the eyes left unchecked, these destructive molecules of oxygen attack and damage lens of the eyes leading to glaucoma and these radicals may be attack blood vessels that supply the central parts of the retina called the retinal spots. And if the blood supply stops, the result is a deterioration of the retina, causing vision loss in adults.

It has been shown that vitamin (A) is one of the powerful antioxidants that prevent the harmful effects of free radicals. One study conducted on 50,000 nurses found that in case of women, who received vitamin (A) in their diets, the exposure to glaucoma is reduced by more than one-third. Three fruits of apricots provide the body with 2,769 IU of vitamin (A) which equal 55% of the daily amount.

Interest comes from the fiber:-

The benefits of getting enough fiber in food are endless. Foods rich in fiber help in weight loss and control high blood sugar and also reduce the level of cholesterol and are necessary to maintain the regularity of digestion.

Another reason to add apricot to fruit dish. The three fruits of apricots contain 3 grams fiber, which equal 12% of the daily amount, and the best of this is that those three fruits contain only 21 calories. When eating apricots because its content of fibers, be sure to eat the crust; because it contains a large proportion of the total fiber contained in the fruit.

Take the most benefits:-

Eating hard apricots. Even if you enjoy eating soft fruit, it is better to eat apricots while it is still fairly solid. apricot fruits contain most of the nutrients when they are at the top of maturity but once it soften, the nutrients begin to breakdown or decomposed.

You can look for color. Unlike most fruits, the fruits of apricots may be yellow or orange color while it is mature at the same time. Both colors are acceptable when you want to get therapeutic benefits, but green fruits means it has been picked early and it did not never ripen which in turn means that you may lose a lot of therapeutic benefits.

You have to store it carefully. It is important to keep the fruits of apricots cool to prevent more ripening, but if you’re going to eat it within a day or two it is best to store apricot fruit in the refrigerator where they remain intact for a week.

Here’s a tip regarding storage. Because apricot fruit is soft and fragile, it quickly captures the flavors – from other fruit stored with it or smells that exist in the fridge – so it’s a good idea to put it in a plastic bag or paper.

Warning ..:-

The idea of the possibility of using the fruits of apricot kernel as a medicine dating back to 1920 when Dr. (Ernest T. Krebs) theorized that a compound called Amygdalin (Glucoside ), which found in the nucleus of apricot fruit, turn to (cyanide) in the body in the form of poisonous salt  called Hydrocyanic that may have the ability to destroy cancer cells.

After about thirty years his son prepared a combination called (Laetrile). And by 1970, cancer patients – who have lost hope of healing by using modern medicines – are traveling to mysterious and submerged clinics and pay exorbitant prices to buy this new drug which has been so famous that at one time was available in health food stores in 27 states.

Now (Laetrile) is not sold Legally in all over the United States although it is available in Mexico and other countries. Now we are going with this question: Do ( Laetrile ) is really effective? According to most experts, the answer is a no.

(Laetrile) is just useless, but also it is a murderer as said by Dr. (Mori Markman) director of the Cancer Center Hospital (Cleveland). Also one study in a hospital (May) in (Rotheistr – Minnesota) found that (Laetrile) cause nausea, vomiting, headaches, and other symptoms of poison (cyanide).

Adds Dr. (Markman) (cyanide), it is dangerous for another reason where some people depend on it, instead of going to the methods of safer and effective cancer treatment

In the kitchen

Although most of us eat apricots in its natural form, but there are many other ways to prepare and enjoy this gold-colored fruits.

Barbecue skewers. The grilled apricot acquires a smoker and sweet taste and its sugar is converted to caramel. Put the whole fruits of apricots or the fruits in pieces into two halves in greased skewers with honey and grill it for 7 to 10 minutes and spin the skewers continually.

Roasting in the oven. To cook apricots inside the house cut fruit into halves and apply honey, then roast it in the oven.

Chard. Eating chard apricots is an excellent way to warm body on a cold night. Put fruit juice and cloves or cinnamon sticks in a pot boiling. Add the whole fruit of apricots or cut into halves, and boil it for 6 to 8 minutes. Lift apricots and leave the content of the pot continue to boil until liquid is thickened and then use it as a top layer on the fruits of apricot.

Apricot dessert dish for breakfast

1 cup of low-fat granola (without raisins) –

1 cup of skimmed yogurt

8 large Apricot fruits seed free cut in the form of slices –

Ground cinnamon

Each ration contains:

173 calories –

2.3 grams fat

0.1 grams saturated fat –

1 mg cholesterol –

75 mg sodium

2.9 grams dietary fiber

Put a tablespoon of granola in each dish of 4 dessert dishes and add two tablespoons of yogurt in each dish and distribute to create a flat layer. Distribute apricot halves on the plates. Spread cinnamon on each dish. Put another tablespoon of granola in each dish. Spread the rest of the yogurt half on the dishes and decorated dishes with the rest of the apricots and half a cup of granola evenly on the dishes.

Note to chef: Use only ripe apricots for this dish and you must know that when mature fruits soften under light pressure, it easily divided into two halves. Dessert pots can be used if there is no sweet dishes. Place yogurt in 4 jars then garnish with the fruits of apricots and granola.
