Preparation of Hydrogen peroxide (3%) 10 vols solution

Preparation of Hydrogen peroxide (3%) 10 vols solution

Reagents:

Prepare fresh before use. To make 10 ml:

Hydrogen peroxide, 30% v/v* …………………. 1 ml
Distilled water …………………………………………. 9 ml

A 30% hydrogen peroxide solution is available from suppliers of chemicals. It contains 100 volumes.

Method:

1) Measure the water and transfer it to a chemically clean bottle of 10–15 ml capacity.

2)  Add 1 ml of 30% hydrogen peroxide solution. Cap the bottle and mix.
Caution: Hydrogen peroxide is a corrosive and oxidizing chemical, therefore handle it with care. Always store it in a cool dark place, preferably at 2–8 °C because exposure to warmth and light causes oxygen to be evolved with a build-up of pressure, which may lead to an explosion.

Note: Use the reagent on the same day it is prepared.
